|The Dome No More as the O2 Arena Opens its Doors|
- Free events lead the way before Sir Elton and the other big guns arrive
THIS Sunday sees the grand opening of the O2 Arena, formerly known as the Millennium Dome, with a long line up of street entertainers, circus acts and aerial entertainers drafted in to help celebrate the event.
It's the start of week of opening features, including spots by the Marley Brothers (Bob's sons) and Jason Donovan and a sparring session with boxer Amir Khan. These are on the Piazza outside the arena proper and are free. More details on times and stuff here.
With a maximum capacity of 20,000, the O2 Arena itself aims to become one of Londonís top level spaces for music acts and the venue has booked some big stars for the coming months including Sir Elton John, Prince and Barbara Streisand.
"I'm really pleased to be coming home with this show," said Sir Elton. "The show is all about love."
