- Tube-style network planned in new-lines-for-old scheme
TUBE-style services on London's over-ground rail network is the promise of a new operator announced by Transport for London.
Hong Kong firm MTR, together with the Laing construction company have been chosen by TfL to revamp the North London line over the next five years, aiming for the kinds of frequency and new-style trains common on London Underground.
They'll also take charge of the East London line and join up the two sections in a network – called London Overground - that will eventually stretch across large parts of north-east and south-east London, right around to Clapham Junction.
"This is the first part of the grand plan to transform the suburban railway network," said a TfL spokesperson.
