'One's Penis Hanging Out Would Be Extraordinary,' Judge Tells Court
- Top legal eagle denies exposing himself on London commuter train

A JUDGE, on trial for exposing himself, told the City of London Magistrates Court: "It would be a very extraordinary to have walked on to a crowded commuter rail service with one's penis hanging out. If that had happened, I would have expected somebody to point it out."

Lord Justice Richards, 56, is nevertheless accused of such an offence*, by a woman commuter who says she saw him dangle out his willy on two separate occasions, on the Raynes Park to Waterloo line, in October last year.

"There were different levels of exposure - fully exposed or slightly exposed," the twentysomething commuter told the court, adding: "It was not erect but flaccid."

The woman, unnamed for legal reasons, says that on the first occasion, on 16 October, the judge "boxed" her into a corner of the train so that fellow commuters couldn't see what was going on.

For the second occasion, on 24 October, the woman told the court that the judge followed her along a carriage and,
"exposed himself in the same manner as last time." She took pictures of him for later reference.

"I simply have to say that what she is alleging, if she is alleging it, is untrue," the Judge told police. Lord Justice Richards is one of the country's top judges and ruled in the Jean Charles de Menezes shoot-to-kill case.

The case continues.

* Strictly speaking the offence is: "intentionally exposing his genitals intending that someone would see them and would be caused alarm or distressed".
