|New Olympics Logo Launched|
- 'Youthful' character comes in multi-colours to reflect the city
A NEW logo for the 2012 Olympics was unveiled today by Olympics boss Lord Coe.
A heavily stylised figure which looks like it is about to set off on a sprint, the logo comes in blue, orange and green as well as the pink shown here.
"We have produced a brand which is appropriate for London, but it has an international character as well," said Coe, who is chairman of the Olympic organising committee.
"It is different, exciting and it really defines us as a city, a country and an organisation. It is interactive and absolutely at the heart of what we need to do - engaging the attention of young people through new media and the virtual world they can get transported into."
The youth angle, especially London's multi-cultural youth, was one of the things that won London the games in the first place, so it makes sense for the organisers to play it up.
It is also felt that going big on youth will help sales of products linked with the Olympics such as T-shirts, caps and bags.
