Pete Doherty Given a Month to Clean Up
- Violation of drug rehab programme will see Babyshambles singer in prison

Pete Doherty Given a Month to Clean Up. Copyright LondonNet.comPETE DOHERTY escaped a prison sentence yesterday, but was warned by a judge that any lapse into his druggie habits would lead to his incarceration.

"What I have in mind is a community order or prison," said Judge Davinder Lachlar at West London Magistrates Court in Hammersmith yesterday.

"If you do not show motivation in the next four weeks you will be in prison. If you really want to tackle the problem you have to comply with the order."

Lachlar also insisted that the Babyshambles lead singer live with a family member until his next court appearance on 4 September, preferably outside London.

The extent of Doherty's drug problem has been exposed by Stephen Street, the producer on Babyshambles' forthcoming album.

"Pete wasn't in a very good state, it was a bit worrying to be honest with you," said Street. "I think the guy has got a lot of talent but for me it was hidden under this fug of addiction and I was desperately trying to get through to the real musician and artist that's underneath."
