|Weekend Slackers Cost Companies Dear|
- 'Friday feeling' lands bosses UKP50million bill
YOU'VE HAD a hard week, but fret not as Friday is upon us and for many Londoners that means a relaxing liquid lunch followed by an early exit home.
But this long-standing tradition of British office life comes at a price. According to a report published today, UK companies are seriously losing out thanks to the 'Friday feeling'.
"Our evidence suggests that more and more workers are seeing Friday afternoon as an unofficial holiday," says Pam Rogerson of the survey's author Employersafe. "This is costing British business just over UKP50m a year, which all goes to form part of the overall UKP13bn cost of workplace absenteeism."
To help combat the slacking-off, the firm has launched a software product to monitor employee absence.
Employers utilising the program are promised new insights into the whereabouts of staff. And before you think you've got the perfect excuse up your sleeve, be warned. The snoopers have identified long lunches, doctor's appointments and out-of-office meetings close to home as favourite escape ploys.
As if to highlight this apparently growing problem, rumour has it that the entire LondonNet staff are slipping out early this Friday afternoon to go go-karting. Just don't tell the boss...
