- Planning should stay at local level, respondents tell pollsters
KEN LIVINGSTONE shouldn't be handed more power, according to a poll of Londoners conducted by the Association of London Government.
The national government is set to give the London Mayor extra planning controls, which he says he wants to use "on housing and planning to accelerate the delivery of new housing in London particularly much needed affordable and larger-sized family homes."
But the ALG survey shows 54 per cent of Londoners in opposition to the scheme, with just 27 per cent backing new powers for the Mayor.
Londoners, said Councillor Merrick Cockell of the ALG, "want the decisions affecting their communities to be taken from within their communities," by which he means local councils.
