THREE hundred pieces by Auguste Rodin go on display at the Royal Academy from Saturday in one of the major art exhibitions in London this year.

Probably most famous in the popular imagination for The Thinker (detail pictured) Rodin is regarded by many art historians as having ushered in a new age of sculpture.

Most of the pieces on show have been borrowed from the Musee Rodin in France. Featured in the exhibition are hugely significant works such as The Gates of Hell, The Kiss and the Bust of St. John the Baptist, but there is also room for work never before seen in Britain, including drawings and sketches.

Rodin at the Royal Academy is on from 23 September 1 January 2007. Ticket prices go from UKP2.80-UKP11.
