|Wireless Internet for London By Next Year|
- Two stage plan starts with West End
CENTRAL London is to go wireless by next year, starting with a square mile of the West End.
Known as the Wireless City project, the wifi scheme will allow people armed with laptops to trawl the internet and fetch their emails without having to pop into an internet café.
"Although this will initially be in the central business and government area, it will later on be rolled out to the more residential areas," said Westminster Council's Colin Barrow.
The roll-out Barrow refers to is set to be underway by mid-2007.
"This is a significant step forward for our residents, and underpins our 'One City' vision to become the greatest city in the world," said Barrow, seemingly unaware his vision has already been achieved.
