Tourist Websites 'A Five Star Scam', Says Report
- Fake reviews easy to pull off, though not on LondonNet

Tourist Websites LEADING on-line hotel and restaurant guides have been slammed in a report in the Sunday Times entitled A Five Star Scam.

Sites such as allinlondon, TripAdviser and the Fodors group on-line arm have been revealed as being based partly on bogus reviews. Like many other websites checked by the Sunday Times, allinlondon featured an extremely positive review of a restaurant written by the restaurant's owner, while reporters managed to boost ratings for poor hotels on the Fodorsí and TripAdviser sites simply by posting several positive reviews.

The Sunday Times exposed other dubious practices in the on-line guide world, from hotels and restaurants writing bad reviews for rivals to the increasing use of fake-review marketing by leading hotels.

For these kinds of reasons, LondonNet has always avoided a reader-review rating scheme for our recommended hotels. Instead, each hotel is personally vetted before inclusion. If we receive a run of negative feed-back on a particular hotel from visitors, we remove the hotel from our list.
