|30 Million Tourists a Record for London|
- Big hike in visitor numbers despite fear of terrorism
TRIPS to London by foreigners broke the 30 million barrier for the first time in 2005, according to new research released by the Office for National Statistics.
That 30 million represented a six per cent jump on the 2004 figure and saw a handy UKP14.2 billion in money spent by the visitors.
Partly because of the normally longer than average length of trip, visitors from Pakistan spent the most, clocking up UKP1,700 per trip, while those from Belgium could only manage UKP200.
In fairness to the Flemish and the Walloons, their trips were some of the shortest, so their average daily spend was UKP72, higher than most.
