- Hi-Def images to be beamed by projector onto walls
TV-STYLE ads are coming to London Underground's tunnel walls next March, it has been announced.
High-definition projectors are to be mounted above platforms, beaming moving ad-imagery onto the walls opposite. At first, the images will only be seen at a few central London stations, but up to 30 stations will be covered by the scheme by next autumn.
"The idea for projectors is that there will be between two and three per platform, with the traditional poster advertisements remaining in between, so about one in four per platform will be digital," said Andrew Oldham, of Viacom, the company which bought the ad rights from Transport for London.
LCD TV screens, also featuring moving-ads, are to be installed on other parts of stations, such as alongside escalators. The ads won't have sound, so won’t interfere with the traditional PA announcement about over-running engineering works.
