|Madonna’s Baby: Father Counters AIDS and Abandonment Claims |
- Yohane Banda rejects star’s version of events
MADONNA has come under more flak over her adoption of Malawian David Banda, with the baby's dad disputing the singer's account of events.
After being slammed in sections of the media for her actions, Madonna has sought to defend herself. She said a few days ago that she was told David's mum had died of AIDS and that his dad was never around.
"This is not true," said Yohane Banda, David's dad. "I used to cycle there almost every week to play with him, and his grandmother sometimes spent a few days there. David was not abandoned. He was very much loved."
Yohane also denied the AIDS story, saying his late wife had never had an AIDS test, but confirmed the revelations that another family had shown considerable interest in David.
"If these people had adopted him, no one would have ever caused this fuss and I could be living my life as normal," said Yohane.
It has also emerged that Madonna was offered a baby with no living parents. "We put forward the names of children who had no-one, but [Madonna] chose David knowing he had a living parent," said Jane Glaves, the orphanage’s Canadian benefactor.
