| Wembley Not Ready Until Next Year - Yet more delays to stadium force FA to switch venues for England games WEMBLEY stadium won’t be open for business until next year, confounding expectations that the England football team would be able to play a match there this summer.Three deadlines for Wembley's completion have now passed with the Football Association and builders Multiplex blaming each other for the embarrassing delays. Multiplex say the FA has changed the specifications for the stadium, requiring extra work, while the FA are likely to go to court for million of pounds in compensation from Multiplex. Meanwhile the FA have a fixture list to worry about. "It is clear that the construction of Wembley Stadium is significantly behind schedule," said an FA spokesperson. "We do not want to set deadlines on when the stadium will open and be faced with the constant speculation surrounding this as we approach individual fixtures." England’s World Cup warm-up games and European Championship qualifiers will now be played at Old Trafford, Manchester, while planned pop concerts are set to be switched to Milton Keynes. |
