|Opera House on Song to Save Theatre Museum|
- Covent Garden neighbours could team up, pending the answer to 'hard financial questions'
THE THEATRE Museum in Covent Garden could be saved from closure by its near neighbour, the Royal Opera House.
Lack of funds for a revamp led to plans by the Victoria and Albert Museum to shift the Theatre Museum to its own South Kensington base, plans which drew opposition from leading lights in the theatrical establishment. The V&A owns the Theatre Museum.
Now the Royal Opera House is looking to help out, assuming it can arrange the necessary finance.
"There are some really hard financial questions to answer. I'm confident, but not overconfident," said Tony Hall, boss of the ROH. "I think it would be a tragedy if the collection moved to South Kensington."
