- Launch of Boney M musical put back to give producers and cast more time in pre-production
THE BONEY M musical, Daddy Cool, has had its opening switched from May to August, in order that the producers can iron out some of the glitches that have emerged during early rehearsals.
"The producers of the Daddy Cool have decided to postpone their opening to late August of this year," said Robert Mackintosh, one of the show's producers.
"[Writer] Frank Farian and I have decided to put back the opening of Daddy Cool by 12 weeks, to spend more time in pre-production in order to achieve the technical and creative possibilities of the show, which, in the long run, we believe will be in the best interests of the show."
Based on the music of 1970s disco-pop act Boney M, Daddy Cool features a cast of 35 and many of the groups hits. Given that those hits ranged in theme from nativity songs (Mary's Boy Child) through 1930s US gangsterism (Ma Baker) to Russian court intrigue (Ra, Ra, Rasputin), it is perhaps easy to see the plot difficulties involved for the show's creators.
