More Power Cuts for West End
- EDF blames outages on increased air-conditioning

More Power Cuts for West EndYESTERDAY's large scale power cuts across London's West End may continue through the weekend says power supplier EDF.

The french utility firm claims a surge in the use of air-conditioning has led to the widespread eletrical supply problems. They say shops and offices across the centre of town have rushed to install the power-hungry coolers as temperatures soared into the high thirties Celcius.

On Thursday Baker Street tube station was closed for several hours and the lights went out in Piccadilly Circus and much of Soho.

Emergency teams from EDF worked through Thursday night to remedy outages at two substations and on two underground cables. Further outages are expected in Soho over the weekend as engineers continue to fight the continuing problems.
