Baby Boom at the LSO
- London Symphony Orchestra to sell DVDs aimed at tiny tots

Photo courtesy of the LSOBABIES are the new target audience for the London Symphony Orchestra, which is to release a series of DVDs aimed at infant-kind.

"A lot of research suggests babies are very receptive to classical music, much more than to music with more beats," explained the LSO’s Chas Jenkins. "So we have been looking for a long time about how to reach very young children."

The DVDs will feature themed visuals to an LSO backing track. Fields, changing skies and number-counting are among the things to be accompanied by the likes of Berlioz and Holst.

The idea is that, captivated as babies, the next generation will grow up with the LSO in their hearts. "It's all about brand recognition," as Kathryn McDowell, the LSO’s managing director, puts it.

Initially, from September, the LSO baby DVDs will be available at Early Learning Centre toy shops and on the orchestra’s website.
