- Week-long celebration of jumping to the beat and shuffling the feet starts on Saturday

Boogie On Down at Big Dance. Photo by John D McHugh.BIG DANCE, a festival for all things dancing, starts this weekend and carries on to the weekend following.

There will be loads of dance events all week, with this weekend’s highlights including a mass picnic at Hampton Court called The Feast with hundreds of dancers; flamenco classes at the Pineapple Studios, Covent Garden; an open day at the Royal Ballet and Tango at the Trocadero.

The whole thing culminates in a two-day dance extravaganza at Trafalgar Square, part of which is to be televised by the BBC.

For two-minutes participants at Trafalgar Square and others at similar events in 39 cities around the world will take part in an attempt to break the world record for numbers of people dancing at the same time, via big screen.

There are also plenty of events in other parts of town – it’s not just a central London thing.
