- The Great London Duck Race to turn the river yellow for a day
LONDON is soon to add to its collection of fake animal extravaganzas. We’ve already had a herd of plastic cows and a giant mechanical elephant; at the end of this month stand by for an invasion of rubber ducks.
All 30,000 participants in the Great London Duck Race are plastic, yellow and similarly sized and each is ready to be sponsored as part of a fundraising effort by the Nightingale House care home for the elderly.
The starting point for the race is from a barge crane on Battersea Park riverside and the finishing line, some 250 metres later, at Albert Bridge.
Ducks cost UKP10 each to sponsor and the sponsor of first ducks over the line win prizes including a holiday in New York and diamond jewellery worth UKP4,000.
The Great London Duck Race takes place on 30th July at 2pm.
