|Year of the Dog Fetches China to London|
- New Year celebrations start major exhibition series
IT’S A DOG’S life for us all from now on as the Chinese New Year and then the Year of the Dog loom.
Big celebrations take place on Sunday, with organisers predicting a crowd in excess of last year’s bumper 80,000, itself one of the largest for a Chinese New Year event.
Things kick off at 11am when the Grand Parade parades down Charing Cross Road to Trafalgar Square, where a special stage will feature a variety of Chinese art forms like dragon performers and specially invited visitors from China including the Shaanxi Dance Troupe.
Chinese New Year wouldn’t be complete without fireworks and this year two big displays take place at 2pm and 5pm.
This year’s New Year celebrations help launch the China in London 2006, a landmark event, which will showcase centuries of Chinese history and art at prestigious venues in London, such as the Royal Academy. China In London runs to end of March.
