- Top shows showered with nominations

BILLY ELLIOT and Guys and Dolls are vying for the musical crown at this year’s Olivier awards.

Guys and Dolls racked up eight nominations, while Billy Eliot gained nine when the list was announced yesterday, but there’s plenty of room for both to claim a sack full of prizes when the ceremony comes around later this month.

The pair have been kept apart in plenty of the categories, with, for instance, only Billy Elliot director Stephen Daldry up for Best Director and only Rob Ashford up for Best Theatre Choreographer.

On the acting front, both have received multiple nominations for leading roles, with all three Billy Elliot leads and all four Guys and Dolls leads in line for Olivier awards.

The Olivier Awards will be held on the 26th of February at the Park Lane Hilton.
