- Gentle Giant hits the road running, with more hope for the future of kids' opera

OPERA tries to win a new generation of fans starting Friday with the staging of Stephen McNeff’s Gentle Giant at the Royal Opera House.

“We have got the full resources of the Royal Opera House, the costumes and the props and so on, are every bit as good as you would see on the main stage,” said McNeff. “Kids are getting the best." The best for five pounds, no less.

McNeff’s show plays again at the Royal Opera House this Saturday before hitting the road with stops at various venues around the country.

Unfortunately, both the London events are sell-outs, but it is hoped the success of the project will lead to more cheap kids’ events.

“Children love being told stories and singing and being sung to,” said McNeff.

“Opera combines those things wonderfully.”
