- Autumn date for 100th year artistic event

TO COMMEMMORATE the 100th year anniversary of artist Paul Cezanne’s death, the National Gallery has announced a major exhibition starting this autumn.

“Cezanne was not a traveller and hardly ever went abroad. His work was hardly known here in his lifetime and only a handful of pictures by him were shown in Britain,” said Anne Robbins, the show’s curator.

“But the UK has one of the greatest collections of Cezanne in the world, both in number - about 90 works - and in quality.”

One of the most famous of those works is The Bathers, which is one of a number of British-owned Cezannes being loaned to galleries around the world before the London show, which starts on the 4th of October and is scheduled to run until 7th January next year.

“I believe the show will be as successful as it will be beautiful,” said Robbins.
