Curry Awards to Spice Up Christmas. Image: Copyright MadhuCURRY chefs from around Britain will today compete for accolades at the ninth annual Cobra Good Curry Awards at the Hilton on Park Lane.

With a lot of people concentrated on turkey and mince pies, this end of the year might seem like and odd time to hold the awards, but curry has infiltrated traditional seasonal fayre, especially on Boxing Day, when left-over turkey is often nowadays used as the base for a spicy alternative feast to the cold-cut spread.

The Cobra Good Curry Awards recognises excellence across a wide variety of Indian sub-continent cuisine, from Pakistani to Sri Lanka and is also split into regional award categories, including perhaps the second most prestigious, the gong for Best Restaurant in London.

That's because the main award often goes to a London restaurant. For example, last year's Best Restaurant prize was scooped by Madhu's, the famous Southall restaurant run by Sanjay Anand.

"Receiving the Best Restaurant Award was a great honour since it is the highest accolade in the industry," said Anand. "I look forward to this years momentous event and wish all nominees the best of luck."
