THE ENORMOUS BLAZE at London's Royal Academy of Arts may well delay Lord Saatchi's USA Today exhibition set for October.

The fire took place in the Academy's annex on Burlington Gardens, formerly The Museum of Mankind. Side streets were closed and nearby buildings evacuated as flames shot 50 foot in the air.

The Saatchi show - featuring modern American Art - may have to move venue, although organisers remain hopeful that it can still take place in the original location.

"The carefully coordinated emergency procedures of the Royal Academy, and the effective management of the incident by the fire and police services, appear to have limited the damage to one gallery and the roof" a gallery spokesperson told the BBC.
