- Overnight arrests thwart liquid-chemical plot, say security services

Met Police: Major Air Attack Foiled. Copyright: LondonNet LtdLONDON airports remain on full alert after this morning's events in which anti-terrorist police arrested up to 20 people on suspicion of planning to bomb several planes travelling between the UK and the US.

Passengers flying out of British airports will be subject to strict security-check measures including the banning of all hand baggage except for exceptional items.

Many airlines have cancelled all flights into the UK.

Early reports suggest that police believe terrorists had planned a liquid-chemical bomb attack on aircraft flying out of airports including Heathrow, Stansted, Birmingham, Glasgow and Manchester.
