Mayor Ken in Red Storm
- Livingstone compares Tiananmen Square to Poll Tax Demo

Mayor Ken in Red StormLONDON Mayor Ken Livingstone faces fresh controversy after comparing the 1989 Tiananmen protests with London's Poll Tax riots of the following year.

He made the comments yesterday in Beijing where he is the guest of the Chinese capital's mayor.

"I said that great squares in town centres have an interesting past" Livingstone said.

"All countries have done terrible things. The question is what are we going to do in the future. We could stand here and discuss whether Chinaís human rights record is or isnít better than anyone elseís."

The mayor is in Beijing to learn of the city's lessons in its preparations for hosting the Olympic Games in 2008, four years before London holds the event in 2012.
