| Windsor Waterworks for Green Queen
- Hydro-electric power for Thames-side castle GREEN is set to rival purple as the colour of royal affection, after it emerged the Queen is to install a hydro-electric power plant to supply energy to Windsor Castle. "The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are very environmentally conscious,” said a royal aide. The hydroelectric scheme is to be built on a weir on the Thames near Windsor Castle. It will mean a big saving in fossil fuel use for the castle and, through the example of royal patronage, is likely to lead to similar schemes being installed on other parts of the river. Meanwhile, Her Majesty travels to Berlin this week, a city in which similarly small-scale green projects abound. As the royal cortege moves through the streets of the German capital, the Green Queen is advised to keep an eye out in particular for Berlin's parking meters which each have little solar panels. |
