| New Arts Centre for Tottenham
- 'Bernie Grant' venue gets go-ahead TOTTENHAM is to get a new UKP14 million arts centre as part of plans for the area's rejuvenation, after funding proposals were hammered out. The venue will feature an auditorium, rehearsal facilities, a cafe and a bookshop and fulfils a vision for Tottenham held by the late Bernie Grant, a popular civil rights campaigner and the area's former MP. "The centre will be a fitting legacy for Bernie Grant and an important part of the regeneration of Tottenham," said London Mayor Ken Livingstone. Money for the scheme has come from a variety of sources including the local council, the national lottery, the EU and the budget of the London Mayor. The site for the centre is a former swimming pool and listed building, some of the features of which will be kept in architect David Adjaye's design. Building is due to start next year. |
