| Queen Puts Crossrail On Track
- Transport double boost as Tube staff back late-nights CROSSRAIL came a step nearer yesterday when, in her annual speech outlining government plans, the Queen announced legislation paving the way for two routes criss-crossing London. The first will link Paddington and Liverpool Street stations while a second line will run from Clapham Junction in the south to Bedfordshire to the north of London. The new routes will be funded through a mix of both private and public money, but won't be up and running in time for the 2012 Olympics should London win the nomination. Meanwhile, Tube station staff have a agreed a new pay and conditions deal with London Underground that includes provisions for a late- night service. The deal has averted a feared strike over the Christmas holiday period. |
