Mary Poppins Bans Kids
- Spoonful of sourness for youngsters at West End show

MARY POPPINS, a hit on the West End, has banned young children from its stalls.

All kids under seven years old are ruled out from attending the show, long considered a family musical, on the grounds that it is darker than the famous film version and, at 2 hours and 50 minutes, too long.

"Because it's a family musical doesn't mean it is suitable for every family member," said Nick Allot, a Mary Poppins producer, in double-think mode. "Theatre doesn't have a certification system like the cinema does. Therefore we think it is our responsibility to provide guidance to parents."

Guidance is one thing, but it has emerged children under seven have actually been turned away at the show's doors.
