|Stage Set for Sunday Theatre
- Vote by union expected to be positive for extra day's thespian fun.
Sunday opening for theatres could come to the West End as soon as next year after Bectu, the union representing back-stage workers, decided to accept a new pay and working hours deal.
That deal, which involves a 5.5 per cent overall pay rise as well as double pay for working on Sundays, will now be put to the union's 700 West End members in a vote.
"We are confident it will be accepted," said Gerry Morrissey of Bectu. "It would give people the chance to go to the theatre when they have more leisure time, while our members would be compensated for giving up their Sunday."
