Zeffirelli Makes A Comeback
- New production for veteran director

FRANCO ZEFFIRELLI's production of Absolutely! Perhaps opens tonight at the Wyndhams Theatre. The Italian director presents Pirandello's old play in a new version by Martin Sherman. Producer Sonia Friedman's staging of this revamped classic hopes to follow in the footsteps of the current West End hit, Three Sisters.

Laurence Olivier's widow, Joan Plowright, takes the lead in this dreamlike comedy. The tale of one man, his eccentric mother-in-law and his reclusive young wife involves a cast of 16 strong British and Irish actors. Initially entitled Right You Are If You Think So, the show received its London premiere in 1925 at the Lyric Hammersmith.

Zeffirelli and Plowright build on their experience working together on the 1999 film, Tea with Mussolini. Italian writer Pirandello is best known for plays like Six Characters in Search of an Author, Naked and Henry IV, but veteran thespians Zeffirelli and Plowright look set to do his little known work justice.
