- Olympic bid set to play up international credentials
LONDON could play the internationalist card in its bid to win the race to host 2012 Olympic Games.
Favourites to lead the London campaign include PY Gerbeau, the Frenchman who helped turn around the fortunes of the Millennium Dome and Barbara Cassani, the American who made such a success of budget airline Go before its merger with easyJet.
With Paris and New York also in the race, the appointment of either of the two would be an effective, and cheeky, example of one-upmanship.
Either way, it seems like a good idea to play up London's inclusive spirit. As Ian Barlow, chairman of the London Business Board said: "London is an incredibly diverse city and will be an excellent city for people to come to."
Other names on the list of likely big names for the Olympic job include popular newsreader Trevor McDonald and Sir Richard Branson.
