|Sexual Perversity In London
- Mamet's classic comes to town
DAVID MAMET's Sexual Perversity In Chicago opens tonight at the Comedy Theatre. TV actor Matthew Perry and British film actress Minnie Driver star in the award winning one act play. The American playwright's sassy four-hander concerns two boys and two girls, two of whom embark on an affair while the other pair watch cynically from the sidelines.
The show is produced by Lloyd Webber rival Sonia Friedman. Friedman has made a name for herself bringing big names like Jerry Hall to contemporary plays such as the Graduate. She recognised that Mamet's 1974 story about young people looking for love is as relevant to London as to Chicago, and duly hired Perry and Driver.
Perry is best known for his role as Chandler in the long running sitcom Friends. Minnie Driver's film credits include Good Will Hunting, Grosse Pointe Blank, and the recent release Hope Springs. In their West End debut, the pair look set to follow in the footsteps of Robert 'Cold Feet' Bathurst, the TV actor currently enjoying prestige in Three Sisters at the Playhouse.
