|Europe Looks to Future after Splits Over Iraq
- Blair and Chirac to meet in Brussels as bombing begins
TONY BLAIR is to meet French President Jacques Chirac this afternoon - the first meeting of the two men since last week's UN debacle.
The British government blamed France for fomenting disunity within the UN Security Council, an accusation to which Chirac has reacted with some fury.
The pair are set to join with other European leaders in Brussels for a summit that is likely to be dominated by discussions on the Iraq War. There are some signs that the pro-war camp, comprising most notably Britain, Spain and Italy, will aim to build bridges with leading anti-war countries such as France and Germany.
Already, French ministers have indicated they favour France helping in the reconstruction of Iraq after the cessation of hostilities - a move that could start to melt the ice between the two sides.
