|More War Protests Planned for London|
- Campaigners gear up for demonstrations
WITH MPs voting in favour of an invasion of Iraq last night, the focus for the anti-war lobby has now switched to the streets, London streets in particular.
Today a small group of protestors paid an early morning wake-up call to the south London home of Jack Straw and made lots of noise in a bid to "bring the realities of war" to the Foreign Secretary.
The main anti-war campaign group, the Stop the War Coalition, plans a big central London march this weekend. "People are very determined to oppose the war," said Stop the War convenor Lindsey German. "We are confident that we will have hundreds of thousands of people on the streets on Saturday."
Stop the War also plan to rally in Whitehall, and are calling on workers to strike, as soon as war breaks out. But after winning Parliament to his side, Prime Minister Tony Blair called for the country at large to unite, and is hoping public opinion will now switch to backing the troops in action.
