|Snow Trek Saves Londoner in Utah Blizzard
- Girlfriend died as help was sought
LONDONER George Metcalfe survived a deadly snow storm in Utah, by traipsing 15 miles through deep snow.
Metcalfe and his American girlfriend Rachel Crowley were sightseeing in Utah's Zion National Park when their Jeep became stuck in a dangerous snow drift. The couple decided Metcalfe should go and seek help. In the vicious conditions, rescuers say he was lucky to survive. Tragically, Crowley perished.
"He made a valiant effort, but he couldn't make it in time to help her," said Than Cooper, a local police officer. "They probably made a decision that if they were going to get help, he needed to hustle on out of there. He wouldn't have made it a heck of a lot further."
Metcalfe had planned to start a new job in London this week, but is now expected to remain in the US for medical assessment.
