|Cassani Flies London Olympic Flag|
- Former airline boss to lead bid for 2012 games
BARBARA CASSANI, named today as the leader of London's team bidding for the 2012 Olympics, issued a rallying cry to Britain's young sports people.
"The children of Britain need to get into the pool and onto the track because in 2012 they'll be competing for gold - in London," said Cassani, who shot to fame by guiding British Airways off-shoot Go to early success before its sale to rival low-cost carrier easyJet.
American Cassani, 42, will be up against her home country in the form of a bid from New York, but is zealous in her backing for London. "I have taken this job because I know we can win. London is a world-class city and we can deliver a world-class Games" she said. Cassani is to be paid UKP200,000 a year for her efforts.
