Mandela's Million Pound Handshakes
- Hero to rake in cash for greetings at Savoy charity bash

GUESTS at Nelson Mandela's London charity event next month will be asked for UKP15,000 for the privilege of shaking the great man's hand.

Mandela nowadays spends much of his time raising cash for his Nelson Mandela Foundation, which helps children in South Africa affected by AIDS. The dinner at The Savoy on July 3 costs UKP3,000 per guest with extras, such as the handshake offer, available.

Top of the heap in terms of prizes is a four day trip to a South African game reserve alongside Mandela that is expected to go for at least UKP100,000 when put to auction.

"The night should raise at least UKP1 million, but we hope it will be nearer UKP2 million," said a Mandela aide.

One tip for the former South African President might be to agree his fees in euros rather than pounds, as the British currency continues to fall on the money markets thanks to being outside the euro zone.
