Tate Finds 500 Missing Turner Paintings
- Huge haul made by gallery's catalogue experts

TATE GALLERY sleuths have discovered 500 lost paintings by one of Britain's greatest artists, JMW Turner.

The Tate is currently cataloguing Turner paintings for a website and its experts have found that many hugely valuable works are scattered around the world in dingy attics and the like.

"They were often family heirlooms which the owners were unaware of because Turner did not always engrave his name," a spokesperson for the Tate said.
