Madonna's English Rose Buds
- Singer-turned-novelist wants to 'inspire' new generation of readers

MADONNA the Meaningful, perhaps influenced by living in in so literary a place as London, has said her forthcoming novel for kids is a response to the "vacant" material with which they are currently assailed.

"A new generation will know Madonna as an inspiring story-teller," said the star's spokesperson.

Madonna's previous best known assault on the publishing world came some years ago when she brought out Sex, a photographic record of the singer's unimaginative, if elegantly realised, sexual fantasies. Pretty vacant, you might say.

Called The English Roses, the new book is due in the shops in September. It is said to be based on stories from the Kabbalah, a mystic Jewish cult. Demand from publishers has been strong and The English Roses is to be translated into 42 languages.
