Art Author In Jermyn Street
- Fringe welcomes West End writer

YASMINA REZA's play Hammerklavier opens at the tiny Jermyn Street Theatre on 30 August. Best known for writing the hit play Art, Reza's latest is a more autobiographical piece.

The drama started out as a novel. Set in Paris, Hammerklavier takes a woman's dream as its starting point and Beethoven's Sonata Opus 106 as its title. The play charts its heroine's efforts to make sense of her confused memories, and pays tribute to Reza's late father and his love of music.

Hammerklavier marks a departure from the comedies that made Reza's name. Like the Olivier award winning Art, her play Life X 3 was warmly received at the Wyndham theatre. Though more likely to provoke tears than laughter, Hammerklavier likewise looks set for a West End transfer.
