| Tube Upgrade to Mean Line Closures - Central Line nightmare could be repeated across London THE PROSPECT of closed Tube lines faces Londoners over the next few years after it emerged that Transport for London plans to increase the pace in its upgrading programme. TfL are backed in their approach by the new private Underground companies which took over the operation of the Tube earlier this year. Lines have been closed in the past to facilitate engineering work and for safety reasons. Only recently large parts of the Central Line were closed creating huge problems for hundreds of thousands of commuters. On the bright side, the line closures planned in the future should mean better signalling and more reliable tracks and therefore a more efficient Underground system. |
