| Dance Performances Bourne Again
- Cult choreography back in town MATTHEW BOURNE's Nutcracker! returns this Christmas, followed by a revival of his all male Swan Lake in July 2004. Both award-winning shows run for six weeks at Sadler's Wells. Bourne's talent as a choreographer emerged 15 years ago when launching the dance company Adventures in Motion Pictures with producer Katharine Dore. Successful reworkings of classic tales include The Car Man, a tribute to Bizet's Carmen, and Cinderella. The success of Nutcracker! inaugurated his new company, New Adventures. This tale of young Clara's amazing Christmas fantasy pays tribute to Busby Berkeley musicals and to the plot of Oliver Twist. Bourne's Swan Lake rivalled Nutcracker! for sheer energy, using the story of eternal love to celebrate male sexuality. The show featured in Stephen Daldry's hit film, Billy Elliot. |
