| New Albert Hall Goes on Show - Renovations ready in time for Proms THE NEW Albert Hall is to be unveiled officially today after eight years of renovation work costing UKP70 million pounds. The most obvious new feature is the mosaic-covered South Porch which constitutes a brand new fascia to one side of the famous concert arena. Other major renovations include new bars, a new roof, seating, restaurants and a new tunnel under the Hall to give easier access to stage equipment. The completion of major refurbishments - there is still some minor work to do - comes in time for this year's BBC Proms, the event for which the Albert Hall is most famous. The Proms starts this Friday, 18 July. |
