Mayor Stages Cheap Ticket Scheme
- 'Get into London Theatre' Livingstone advises Londoners

KEN LIVINGSTONE is campaigning to attract a new audience to West End theatres. The London Mayor's new scheme called 'Get Into London Theatre' is supported by the Greater London Authority and runs from today until March 29.

Livingstone teams up with actors Sir Ian McKellen and Michael Greco to announce the scheme on Wednesday at the Criterion Theatre. Other supporters include The Society of London Theatre, along with the producers for over 50 West End shows who are offering reductions in the form of tickets for between UKP5 and UKP20. The Mayor's London Development Agency is matching the theatre industry's discounts with a contribution of UKP350,000.

Sir Stephen Waley-Cohen of the Society of London Theatre said he was delighted to be working with the mayor to attract a diverse theatre audience. "Not all Londoners are making the most of what is on their doorstep," said Livingstone. "I hope that through this discounted ticket promotion they will discover what an enjoyable and rewarding experience going to the theatre can be."
