Londoners Are 'Flash', says Ferguson
- Man United boss lays into capital in TV show

MANCHESTER UNITED manager Sir Alex Ferguson has launched an extraordinary attack on the perceived 'flashiness' of Londoners.

"The Londoners are different, you know," Ferguson said. "I think it's something in the water down there."

Ferguson makes his bigoted comments in a TV show about former United striker Teddy Sheringham, now at Tottenham. "I think when he came here first he was a wee bit that way. At times Sheringham can be a little bit flash. But once Sheringham got up here, we could control him a bit better."

Other London-bred United players also got it in the neck from Ferguson. "Incey [Paul Ince, currently at Wolverhampton Wanderers] was a bit flash, but once he got settled in he was all right. Beckham [David Beckham, England captain] is a Londoner, he's a bit flash at times. I think it's the make-up of the London people to be honest."

Given the fact United are in a battle with London side Arsenal for the Premiership title, his comments might appear likely to stir things up, but most of the Arsenal players are French.
