|Post-war Iraq Could Take the Refugees Britain Doesn't Want|
- Leaked plan favours deportation for asylum seekers to foreign camps
IRAQ could be used as a giant refugee camp for unwanted asylum seekers shipped over from Britain after any upcoming war, according to leaked government documents.
The government has made it clear in recent weeks that it plans to introduce measures to deter asylum seekers, including the building of more detention centres. But the new plan is to deport refugees to so-called 'safe havens' in poor countries, including Iraq, Turkey and Iran.
Deportation would "rapidly reduce the number of economic immigrants using asylum applications as a migration route", claims the secret Home Office report. The idea is that applications for asylum into Britain would be checked in these new camps rather than in Britain itself.
